George Peele was one of the leading dramatists of the pre-Shakespearean era; like his friend Robert Greene, he unfortunately led a life of dissipation, resulting in his premature death in complete poverty around the age of forty. So down and out was he at the end of his life, that until recently his date of death was less certain than his date of birth. Read more about George Peele here.
